The Miwok Archeological Preserve of Marin (MAPOM) sponsors classes
in California Indian Skills at Point Reyes National Seashore in
western Marin County each Spring and Fall. Classes are for adults
(over 15-years-old) and are held at Kule Loklo, the reconstructed
Indian village at the park. Most classes on hands-on. Each class

Twined tule mats are beautiful, durable and resistant to soiling. Sleeping and sitting mats provide both insulation and a cushion from the hard ground. They are easily rolled, are portable and light. Wherever this wetland plant grows, you can be sure Native Peoples put it to practical use. The instructors will provide cut tule, hemp cordage and the instruction necessary for participants to create their own tule mat. The size of your tule mat may depend on your skill, but a good sized sitting mat or shoulder to hip sleeping pad is a reasonable expectation.
