RABBIT SKIN BLANKET

Learn about traditional materials and techniques. Using a stone blade or burin, participants cut the pelt into long strips, twist it into a long fluffy spiral, and use cordage to twine it into a blanket. Students complete a sample blanket (15 pelts make a blanket about 24 in. by 19 in.) or they can enlarge their blanket at home. Participants will learn to make dogbane cordage, but commercial hemp will be used for the project. Students can waive the cost of the 15 rabbit pelts ($30 of the class fee) by bringing their own rabbit pelts. Your pelts should not tear easily, be brittle or be too thin (bring at least 10 to 15 pelts).

Date: September 24, 2005 (Saturday)
Time: 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Instructors: Dino Labiste and Susan Witmore
Age Min/Max: 16/Adult
Fee: $95.00 (includes 15 rabbit skins)
